Portfolio Update November 2024 – Year End Party Started Early, Green All Around

Christmas came early this year. Stocks are rallying like no tomorrow, which started with Trump’s election victory. I’m not complaining, since our portfolios are up a lot in November. As green as Christmas tree.

With markets powering higher, I’ve been a net seller in October and November, in both portfolios. Doesn’t hurt to take some profits, just gotta manage the FOMO if markets continue to power higher.

Bond yields appear to be ticking back up, so there’s no rush to deploy cash. In fact, with stocks and crypto pushing all-time highs, I’m padding up my cash war chest in case the party ends abruptly.

Family Retirement Portfolio (FRP)

FRP as at 11 Dec 2024

FRP beat S&P 500 and Nasdaq easily in November, mainly due to rallies in Palantir (PLTR) and Tesla (TSLA), which have elevated these 2 stocks to the top of the individual stocks in the portfolio. The rally in tech stocks caused the portfolio to be pretty imbalanced. So even after adjusting the portfolio allocation by 2%pts, I still had to trim stocks because they just kept on rallying.

In the last 2 months, I’ve closed our position in PayPal (PYPL) and trimmed Block (SQ), Palantir just for rebalancing purposes. The funds were then redirected to Syfe REIT+, Income+, and Equity100 portfolios. Whatever excess is held in cash.

No change to the usual RSP into ETFs on FSMOne into VWRA, QQQ, ARKK and HST, despite the higher prices.

In terms of cash allocation, this portfolio is currently sitting at 17.9% cash. No change to cash allocation modifiers, since SSB rates have been pretty stable.

Syfe managed portfolios is currently valued at $39.4k (as at 11 Dec 2024) after multiple rebalancing positive flows into Syfe portfolios in addition to the usual RSP S$400/mth, but also largely due to the rally in stocks offset by drop in REITs. No change to regular monthly contributions of $200 into each of the Core Equity100 and REIT+ portfolios.

Personal Trading Portfolio (PTP)

PTP as at 11 Dec 2024

PTP posted huge gains and outperformance driven by huge rallies in both Tesla (TSLA) and Palantir (PLTR) of +38% and +60% respectively for November.

Palantir continues to rally despite extreme valuations, and continues to defy gravity. I’ve continued to trim along the way, but so far that has not been a wise choice causing me to miss out on further gains.

Tesla has also been doing well since Trump won the election, due to Musk getting involved in his campaign and likely to benefit from Trump’s pro-business policies. I admit I didn’t have confidence that Trump would win so emphatically, so I had trimmed some TSLA stock prior to election, and continued to do so after TSLA surged. However, similarly TSLA stock seems to be carried by the overall market momentum upwards. I’m trying my best not to trim anymore.

The other newer position in Alphabet (GOOG), Disney (DIS), and Boeing (BA) are also faring decently, though not as much as the above two. Alphabet appears to be shaking off investor nerves about a potential break-up. Disney finally appears to finding its feet under Bob Iger. As for Boeing, I’m hopeful they can turn things around but I won’t put big money behind it until I see momentum building sustainably.
