More of the same pain this month, as markets continue to steadily decline. S&P 500 finally fell into bear market this month, so in all likelihood we can expect to see further downside probably until the end of the year at least.
In July, investors will also be eagerly awaiting US Q2 GDP print which most anticipate to show another decline and confirm a technical recession in the US. I shared my thoughts in more detail on how I plan to manage my investments and finances as recession looms in this post here.
I’m not planning to add aggressively to index funds or individual stocks just yet, besides the automated RSP I’ve set up on FSMOne and Syfe. Currently, I’m sitting on quite a bit of cash and biding my time.
On a separate note, I was allocated S$18K in Singapore Savings Bonds (SSB) out of the S$40K I applied for. Will likely be applying for August SSB as well to deploy the balance if the rate offered is the same or higher. These funds are from our emergency savings, separate from our investment funds. See my post on this here.
See my portfolio holdings and strategy on my Portfolio page. I’m planning to revamp this page soon, so stay tuned.

- All-time performance (since Aug 2016): -13.8% (-11.7% including dividends)
- June dividends: S$230 (+3% yoy)
- Bought: VT, QQQ, ARKK, HST

Automated purchases through FSMOne didn’t go through this month due to eGIRO deposit not happening before the deductions for RSP. Strange that they’re not aligned. So I’ve terminated the eGIRO and set up scheduled transfers from my DBS account. Hopefully, next month the automation works.
I’ve also made some updates to RSP and included QQQ. Either I didn’t notice QQQ was available for RSP also or it was just recently added. My current set up is that every month S$2K will be invested into these 4 ETFs: VT, QQQ, ARKK, HST.
See my previous posts on FSMOne: Automating Your Investments With FSMOne and FSMOne RSP Update
I’ve also topped up with additional purchases of VT, QQQ and HST to run down some cash. I might be buying more HST after a long hiatus, since Chinese stocks seem to be on the mend.
I’ve also set up scheduled transfers into Syfe Cash+, and subsequently to invest those monthly into Core Equity100 and REIT+. I decided to go with Syfe Equity100 after comparing against Endowus and StashAway. I’ll share my comparison and thoughts in another post in future.
See my review of Syfe REIT+ here and comparison vs VNQ here.
Personal Portfolio
- June performance: -6.4%
- YTD performance: -26.5%
- All-time performance (since July 2020): +2.6%
- Bought: TSLA, SQQQ, SARK
- Sold: None
Tesla (TSLA) was down 9% for the month, continuing its slide. Production and delivery numbers are expected to be below consensus estimates due to Shanghai lockdowns, so TSLA might continue to see more weakness. I think TSLA will break the recent ~$620 support level soon towards the downside, so I’m preparing to buy more in that scenario.
See my previous post on Tesla: Why I’m Loading Up On Tesla Stock
See my investment thesis on TSLA here.
In anticipation of more stock market weakness, I bought SQQQ and SARK to hedge against declines in the short term. Last time I tried this, I lost money though. Anyway, these positions reflect my current short term bearishness.
I continue to dip my toes in options. Sold 1 put on Palantir (PLTR) and closed it before expiry for a small $36 gain. Also sold a call on PLTR which is still open. Hopefully PLTR continues to decline a bit, then I’ll likewise close it before expiry. Might sell another put at $8 strike price because I like PLTR at that price and don’t mind being assigned. Quite sure at this point, PLTR is not going to the moon just yet.
