Portfolio Update – April 2021

Markets were moving sideways in April, since hitting all-time highs around mid-month. I didn’t see much opportunity for long-term adds, so I took the time to catch up on my stocks analyses, re-evaluated my portfolio, and learnt a little bit about basic technical analysis (for ST trading in eToro and hopefully help me identify better LT entry points for the Family Portfolio).

Although markets might just be taking a bit of a breather before its next step higher, I’m not fully convinced this is the case so I didn’t buy much in April. I do add capital regularly every month, so I did buy something on the last trading day of the month out of desperation.

Nevertheless, it was a slow grind higher, not that I’m complaining. With cash building up though (approaching 20% of the portfolio), I do hope we get a correction soon to open up some buying opportunities. Hoping “sell in May and go away” happens.

Family Portfolio

  • April performance: +4.2%
  • All-time performance: +11.8% (+16.1% including dividends)
  • March dividends: S$20 (-8% yoy)
  • Bought: QQQ, TSLA
  • Sold: SGX:G3B

Singapore stocks continues to surprise by grinding higher, benefitting from the rotation to value. Took the opportunity to finally let go of some STI ETF to build up cash and slowly DCA into VT and QQQ.

This is also the 2nd month of RSP into HST ETF through OCBC BCIP (getting good prices due to weakness in Chinese tech stocks).

Personal Portfolio

  • April performance: +4.0%
  • All-time performance: +17.7% (+23.8% including dividends)
  • March dividends: None
  • Bought: None
  • Sold: None

No action this month since markets were moving sideways after hitting all-time highs.

Social Portfolio

  • March performance: +3.6%
  • YTD performance: +0.6%
  • Haven’t figured out how to track dividends in eToro
  • Check out my eToro account for trade activity: https://etoro.tw/3rLL9tX

Quite a bit of selling into strength on better performing names. Been taking short-term gains and re-deploying funds into beaten down names. Spent a bit more time trading since there weren’t much compelling long-term opportunities this month.

What have you been buying or selling in April? Would love to hear from you.
